How to Balance your Solar Plexus Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

Today I will be guiding you through tips and techniques on how to balance your Solar Plexus Chakra.

Our emotions reside physically in our bodies.

On a subtle level, our bodies communicate with the energies around us and certain energetic impulses usually relate directly to a certain part of the body and chakra that’s weakened or imbalanced.

Each chakra represents a spiritual life lesson or challenge to help us gain a more in-depth understanding of our personal and spiritual power.

This, in turn, helps us learn how to overcome obstacles, let go of emotional blockages, and walk the path towards spiritual consciousness.

The Manipura, or Solar Plexus Chakra, is our epicentre and the magnetic core of our personality and our ego.

This post explains your Third Chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, in-depth by exploring its emotional and mental connection to the physical world.

The energy of the Third Chakra, often referred to as the Solar Plexus or Manipura, is the formation of the independent self – independent from our community and independent from external relationships.

It’s a personality separate from any inherited characteristics.

However, if the first and second chakras are out of balance, then the Manipura develops issues related to fragile personal power and low self-esteem.

To recap: the Root Chakra resonates with familial power, and the sacral resonates with the flowing power between others and the self.

The Third Chakra relates to our independence and personal power within the external world.

What does Manipura mean?

Manipura is a Sanskrit word with several accepted English translations including:

  • Mani = jewel
  • Pura = place or city
  • City of jewels
  • Lotus gem
  • Lustrous gem
  • Home of our ego and confidence

Quick facts about the manipura, or third chakra

  • Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area (couple fingers or inches above navel but under breast bone area).
  • What it controls: Elements of personal power including self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem
  • Color: Yellow

How-to-Balance-your-Solar-Plexus-Chakra

  • Animal: Ram
  • Element: Fire (manifests as heat in the solar plexus)
  • Stone: Amber
  • Associated shape: Downward triangle; represents spreading of energy for growth and positive development.

Function and Benefits of a Balanced Third Chakra

A balanced chakra helps you feel warm with purpose and power.

You will feel a sense of confidence that emanates from your chest and drives your entire body forward.

The Intellect

Keeping the solar plexus chakra in balance and unlocked allows your intellect to grow. New intellectual challenges, like understanding a new field of study or taking a difficult test, will come more naturally to you.

Personal Opinions

With an unlocked chakra, you will feel a strong sense of clarity in forming personal opinions. Your beliefs will feel organically formed within you. This is the “gut instinct” you may have been wishing to hone.

Decision-making

Making decisions also feels good with an open solar plexus. Nothing is decided upon a whim because your inner self speaks to you in a clear, confident voice. Setting the direction is easy and navigating choppy waters comes naturally.

Clarity of Judgment

When you need to make a judgment, call based on very little information, a clear solar plexus chakra will always guide you right. This can be very helpful in child-rearing, making quick judgments at work, and dealing with difficult and dramatic people in your life.

Personal Identity

Much of your personality and personal identity is found within this chakra. When it is open and freely flowing, it sizzles with all of the individual and charming quirks that make you uniquely you.

Self-assurance

Maybe you’ve looked at someone and wondered, “Where does that person get so much self-confidence?” It’s coming from their third chakra, the chakra that helps a person feel confident, self-assured, full of willpower, and empowered to speak their truth.

Self-discipline

If you’re putting off your dreams or failing to achieve certain goals in your life, perhaps your Manipura is blocked. This is also the chakra of self-discipline that keeps you on track no matter what kind of curveballs life throws at you.

Independence

When this chakra is brimming with energy flow, you are your own best friend. This allows you to feel invigorated with independence and freedom. You don’t need to rely on others for your satisfaction, self-worth, motivation, or accomplishments.

What happens when Manipura is imbalanced?

  • How to Know If your Solar Plexus is Blocked
  • Someone who is struggling with a blocked solar plexus will feel helpless, irresponsible, and totally lacking in drive and motivation.
  • A blocked third chakra yields emotional damage like:
  • Feelings of weakness and powerlessness
  • Low self-esteem
  • Undisciplined decision-making
  • Irresponsibility
  • Blaming others
  • Manipulating others for personal gain
  • Bullying and dominating
  • Insecurity
  • Lack of assertiveness
  • Feeling unattractive
  • Feeling that you’ve let yourself down

Someone with a blocked solar plexus chakra may start feeling powerless in their life, which leads to manipulating and bullying others due to their own lack of personal power.

When they see that others are dominated by their behaviour, it gives them a false sense of power that can be damaging to both people.

On the other hand, a blocked chakra can also cause someone to turn inside themselves with feelings of deep insecurity and weakness.

They may begin to bully their own inner child, scolding themselves for every perceived failure.

Solar-plexus-chakra

This could turn to very unhealthy solutions like drug addiction, alcohol abuse, smoking, compulsive shopping, gambling, stealing, hoarding or overeating.

These are all signs that one may be in urgent need of solar plexus chakra healing.

People with an overactive solar plexus chakra are often bossy, overly confident, bully-ish, conceited, and power-hungry.

Chakra health can also affect the well-being of your body parts and systems:

  • The stomach, including ulcers
  • Your digestive system, creating nausea, bloating, constipation, gas and digestion issues
  • The immune system, making healing difficult
  • Hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar) and diabetes
  • Trouble gaining or losing weight as needed
  • Respiratory problems, including asthma
  • Arthritis, nerve pain, and/or fibromyalgia
  • Liver and kidney disease
  • Procrastinating

How to Balance your Solar Plexus Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

If your solar plexus chakra is feeling too locked up to infuse you with natural energy, it’s time to look for ways to unlock it.

Here are some reliable methods of clearing a blockage and rejuvenating your inner source.

Start to balance chakras with a scan of your physical body

You can begin listening to what your chakras are signalling by doing a body scan.

It can be challenging or even uncomfortable trying to quiet the mind at first, so do this in a safe space where interruptions will be minimised.

Clear negative energy from the space with an aromatherapy mist or incense burning.

Suggestions for body scanning for your solar plexus chakra:

  • Lie down on your back with a pillow under your knees
  • Place your hands over your stomach area (overtop your navel)
  • Close your eyes and take a deep breath, exhaling any negative energy
  • How does your breath feel coming into your body?
  • Does your diaphragm rise and fall fully?
  • Is the oxygen feeling stuck?
  • What emotions are coming up?
  • If you need to, stop here and begin working on balancing your Manipura chakra, do so.

If you’d like to continue, ask yourself the following:

  • What do you feel?
  • What shape is the feeling?
  • What colour?
  • Is it cold, hot, heavy, etc.?
  • What do you want to do with it?

Oftentimes we can work through the energy blocks in our bodies by mentally bringing ourselves through the process.

This is advanced level inner energy work and is best for people who have worked with an energy healer or trauma therapist before.

MEDITATIONS FOR THE SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA

As mentioned above, so much of energy healing can be done through meditation and visualisation.

Actually, I’ve read that meditation is the most powerful and quickest way to begin opening and balancing your chakras.

Solar Plexus Chakra Healing Guided Meditation – this is a beautiful and relaxing guided meditation that will help heal and open your solar plexus chakra.

Activating Qi Flow of Solar Plexus Chakra Meditation – another relaxing guided meditation that uses Solfeggio 528hz and binaural beats.

How-to-Balance-the-solar-plexus-Chakra

Solar Plexus Activation & Healing – this is a 9-hour long meditation sleep audio that helps to heal and activate your solar plexus chakra.

Clearing Stuck Energy – Solar Plexus – beautiful guided meditation that helps you release self-limiting beliefs and stuck energy that will balance and open the solar plexus chakra.

There is so much content on YouTube for chakras, I definitely recommend researching yourself.

Never underestimate the power of the people you’re with

This is never truer than if you’re an empath or spiritually sensitive person – you’ll naturally soak in everyone else’s energy without even realising.

Look at the people who are in your life.

Do they feel empowered? Do they have good self-esteem? Do they have a balanced solar plexus chakra?

Often, we can mirror the behaviour of people around us and stay small to try and fit in.

This is no good for the solar plexus chakra.

The first step if you want to enjoy a strong, harmonious and balanced solar plexus chakra is to align yourself with relationships that allow you to express yourself as the greatest version of you.

It’s not cool to have low self-esteem, and you don’t need to put yourself down to fit in.

Find people who raise you up and give you a safe space to shine as the brightest version of you.

Release anger

Anger can stick in the solar plexus chakra like a toxic glue.

People who are quick to anger have an overactive solar plexus, and they’re giving their power away too easily when other people can invoke such a strong emotional response.

Equally, if you don’t feel safe expressing any anger and you people, please just to avoid conflict, it’s likely that you have an underactive solar plexus.

Louise Hay famously tells her story of how she had to release old anger from childhood sexual abuse to eliminate cervical cancer, which she saw as a manifestation of this trapped trauma.

Research how you can release your own anger – either on your own or with a professional counsellor.

The anger could be trapped in your solar plexus and causing an imbalance.

Setting it free will allow energy to flow through again, bringing it back into balance.

Improve your diet

Watching what you eat is extra important if you’re spiritually sensitive.

Food is just another kind of energy and you’re putting it directly into your body, at the centre of all your energy fields.

Colours are associated with all of the chakras, and the colour yellow is associated with your solar plexus.

Therefore, it’s said that this chakra appreciates healthy and nutritious yellow foods.

Such as:

Solar-plexus-chakra

🍋 Lemons 🍋 Bananas 🍋 Sweetcorn 🍋 Pineapple 🍋 Turmeric 🍋 Lentils

Eating foods that you can digest more easily (e.g., gluten-free and without dairy) is an easy way to find relief from any physical symptoms of imbalance in this chakra.

Your food gives you energy and you want your food to support all of the power that you have available in this chakra.

Eat foods that will enable you to flourish by being nourished.

Use crystals

Similar to foods, the solar plexus also appreciates yellow crystals.

Often, Reiki therapists will place crystals down the chakras of the client they’re working on.

These crystals will match the colour of each chakra.

You can place yellow crystals on your solar plexus chakra when you’re lying down, meditate, and visualise the yellow energy centre around your stomach swirling freely.

Imagine that it’s completely open to energy flowing through it and out of it.

You can use: 💛 Amber 💛 Citrine 💛 Tigers Eye 💛 Yellow Calcite 💛 Yellow Topaz

Crystals are great energy amplifiers and they can also soak in any toxic energy from your solar plexus.

For this reason, it’s very important that you regularly cleanse your crystals to release any old energy they’ve soaked in.

Affirm your power

You can use affirmations to inspire movement in all of your chakras – for your solar plexus, choose affirmations that remind you of your power to get the energy moving again.

You can 1) write them down every morning, 2) say them in your mind, or 3) say them out loud to yourself when you’re on your own (such as in the shower or driving).

Imagine these high vibration words going into your chakra and feel them to be true from your gut, which is where your solar plexus is.

This is your centre of personal truth, and what you believe about yourself is held in there.

Know with 100% faith that these affirmations are true and reflective of you.

Solar-plexus-chakra

Affirmations for your solar plexus could include:

  • I am strong and immensely powerful just by being me
  • There’s nothing that anyone can ever do to take away my light
  • I create my own life and I can create it however I want

One of my favourite affirmations which I always use is:

  • I get to have fun, be free, and be me; and as a result, I get to live in an endless state of abundance

Try these or think of some new affirmations which will restore positive self-belief into your energy centre.

Prioritise freedom

When you feel restricted, it manifests as blocked energy in your chakras which then restricts your manifesting.

Freedom is what your soul wants for you most of all.

When you don’t allow yourself to be free, you’re encouraging your solar plexus to stay small and you’re hiding from your light.

Allowing yourself to be free is done in small steps, such as:

  • Choosing not to be a victim
  • Laughing at yourself when you do things wrong, instead of criticising yourself
  • Being spontaneous because you’re not fearfully controlling every outcome

Prioritising freedom also means being someone who isn’t overly attached.

This includes being attached to outcomes, things, ideas, views, and people.

When you aren’t attached, you’re free to adapt.

But when you’re too attached, you get stuck and your energy does too.

You allow energy to flow properly through this centre again when you’re happy in the moment and you don’t need to be in control.

Allow yourself to shine, everything will be fine.

Remember that your energy feels best when it’s fluid, light and free to fully express what your soul wants for you.

Your energy is yours, so don’t give it away to things that zap you of your power and make you feel unable to change.

You are able to change, and become better.

Get Close to the Element of Fire

When is the last time you experienced fire up close?

Spend time by a campfire and reconnect with the feeling of the flames on your face.

This can stimulate and unlock your chakra.

The same effect can come from simply going outside, taking a walk in the sun, and enjoying nature’s warming beams.

Sunbathing is an excellent way to encourage energy movement within the body.

Yoga Poses

Any yoga pose that brings heat to the navel chakra will help unlock this chakra. In fact, you can start with the simple plank pose to warm up your body.

From there, try the warrior pose, bow pose, child’s pose, and corpse pose to reconnect with your solar plexus.

Chanting “RAM”

The solar plexus is stimulated by the sound ram, which has a root base in Sanskrit which means “support/make still” and “witness/make evident.”

Chant this sound to build a strong connection with this chakra and coax out your inner power.

You can also practice increasing the number of times you chant ram within a single breath, as shown in this video about ram chanting.

How to Balance your Solar Plexus Chakra – Final thoughts

Your Manipura chakra is essential to maintaining your spirit of freedom and lifelong independence.

When this chakra is unblocked and flowing freely, you’ll find that you have the clarity and confidence to boldly follow the direction of your inner compass.

What are you doing to live a better life?

A Beginner’s Guide to the 7 Chakras – All You Need to Know!

Today I will sharing with you a beginner’s guide to the 7 Chakras. Chakra points are energy spots in the Human body. In Sanskrit, ‘chakra’ means ‘wheel’, and the exact definition of chakra is “wheel of spinning energy”, a whirling vortex like the powerhouse of energy.…

How to Balance the Root Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

Today I will be diving deep into how to balance the root chakra and the benefits of doing so. Ever since spring 2020, life has seemingly been anything but ‘normal.’ Many routines were uprooted and fear took centre stage. If you’re like me, you might…

How to Balance the Heart Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

How to Balance the Heart Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

Today I will be talking you through how to balance the heart chakra.

The heart chakra is the fourth out of seven chakras in the human body and is referred to as ‘Anahata’ chakra in Sanskrit.

The word ‘Anahata’ translates to ‘unhurt.’ It is located at the centre of the spine at the heart level.

An active Anahata chakra paints your life with compassion, love, empathy, and forgiveness. The fourth chakra radiates the feeling of trust, generosity, gratitude, and connectedness in you.

The heart chakra is symbolised by a green six-pointed star inside a 12-petaled flower. This chakra is known to have feminine energy and is associated with air.

The heart chakra happens to be the middle chakra of the seven human chakras which unites the physical and spiritual chakras.

By connecting the lower and upper three chakras the fourth chakra acts as a bridge between the earth and the spirit.

How we treat others (as well as ourselves) is very much guided by one’s Heart Chakra.

When the Heart Chakra is centred, you’re better able to express/receive unconditional love for others as well as yourself.

What colour is associated with the heart chakra?

The heart chakra is associated with the colour green, but it’s also associated with the colour pink

Green is a very soothing and calming energy which promotes feelings of harmony and security as its associated with nature.

Pink is a colour of sweetness, romance and a loving sensitivity. All of these energies are what produces true unconditional love for another, in spite of any flaws or imperfections.

As such, when the heart chakra is open, or in the process of opening, the capacity for unconditional love and acceptance is strong, and being able to experience this feeling naturally raises your vibration.

Symptoms of unbalanced heart chakra

The heart chakra can go inactive due to both physical and emotional hurtful situations and a change in environment.

It manifests into blocking of energy flow or overflow of energy, either of them being considered problematic cases.
Below are the symptoms to recognise the imbalance in heart chakra:

  • Jealousy
  • Fear of intimacy
  • Trying to please; co-dependency.
  • Feeling of closed down
  • Feeling of either victimization or rescuer.
  • Overly defensive.
  • Extreme isolation; anti-social.
  • Yearning for approval from others.
  • Not being able to forgive and holding onto grudges even for the slightest of things.
  • Respiratory ailments including lung infections, breathing issues, and bronchitis.
  • Circulatory and heart-related problems.

You experience ‘heart chakra pain,’ if your Anahata chakra is blocked.

Where is the heart chakra?

The heart chakra is located in the centre of your chest. It is the fourth chakra, but the first of the higher chakras.

The lower chakras include the solar plexus being the third, the sacral chakra being the second and the root chakra being the first and the base.

How-to-Balance-the-Heart-Chakra

Once you master the lower three chakras, you will have a solid foundation to begin working on the higher chakras.

When the heart chakra is out of balance, you may lack the ability to be open and receptive to others. You may not be able to forgive easily and/or lack compassion as well as hold onto grudges.

When does the heart chakra close?

Many times, someone who has been deeply wounded or heartbroken will have a closed heart chakra, which is a normal response to this type of pain.

Although, the only way to truly heal the heart chakra, is to open your heart to love again.

The good news for those who have experienced heartbreak, is that if you’re nervous to open your heart to love again with another person, you can simply start by loving yourself, which the heart chakra is also associated with.

The ability to love another starts with the ability to love the self. When you love yourself, you know what your needs are, you respect your own boundaries and you essentially properly nurture and ‘parent’ yourself.

How to Balance the Heart Chakra – Ultimate Guide!

Creative visualisation meditation

Creative visualisation is a exercise used to promote manifestation. This technique requires the use of visualising what you want and experiencing the emotions and feelings you would have if it were your reality.

You can use this meditation to open and balance your heart chakra by visualising this energy point during its healing process.

heart-chakra

First, visualise a vibrant green spinning ball of energy located at your heart. While this ball of light is active; connect with feelings of love, light, compassion, and gratitude.

All the while, stay open to receive love directly from the universe. Simply, allow those gifts to flow right into your heart energy source and breathe.

Breathwork

The heart chakra’s element is air, and it relates to our lungs as well as our hearts. So, some simple breathing exercises can help to release blockages and open your heart chakra.

Concentrate on taking deep breaths, using your chest instead of your diaphragm. You can combine this with meditation, imaging a gentle green light bathing your chest as you inhale and exhale.

Or you might visualise a rose blooming in your chest while you breathe. Each breath feeds the flower, helping it grow stronger and more beautiful.

Practice self-love

Self-love is a deep concept and one which can be connected with essentially self-parenting as to love the self is to take care of the self

This includes all aspects of care including physical and mental health, taking care of your responsibilities, getting your social needs met, learning skills to better improve your life, following your true passions and much, much more.

Self-love involves being your own best friend and cheerleader for your life. This includes encouraging yourself, never giving up on yourself and saying nice and uplifting things to yourself.

Be patient

Learning to love the self is a gradual process as opening the heart chakra is also a gradual process.

Once you heal and open your heart chakra, the rest of the journey up the chakras becomes more spiritually and divinely connected to source and your higher-self.

Connecting with these higher planes of existence and awareness requires you to be at a certain level vibrationally, which is why it’s always recommended to begin working with the lower chakras first.

The reason for this is because transitioning between the spiritual reality and the physical reality can be intense, as the vibrational state of both dimensions are vastly different.

Affirmations

Simply, affirmations are phrases you say out loud or think to yourself. In detail, affirmation defined means the act of affirming; Hence, when you say or think a phrase over and over again you are affirming that it is true.

Use affirmations to affirm that your heart is open, balanced, and full of love and light!

Here are some of my favourite healing affirmations:

  • My heart space radiates powerful green light.
  • I live in harmony with all other beings.
  • I am open to give and receive love.
  • I am compassionate and connect with others.
  • I am open to love and be loved.
  • I am loving awareness.
  • I accept and acknowledge myself
  • I nurture my inner self.
  • I am grateful for all that I have got.
  • I feel a sense of unity with nature and animals.
  • I accept things as they are.
  • I embrace forgiveness.
  • I am grateful for the challenges that shaped me.

Crystal therapy

To some, crystals are just beautiful rocks and stones to look at or to decorate with. However, what many people don’t know is that they carry powerful energy and when used correctly can aid your spiritual wellbeing.

Meditate with crystals that align with the heart chakra to promote healthy feelings associated with it.

Some popular crystals to use to balance the heart chakra are rose quartz, green aventurine, and malachite.

Eat the right food

What you eat has a huge impact on how you feel, this is a known fact – unhealthy foods are going to make you feel sluggish and drained while fresh healthy food makes you feel energised.

What many people don’t know is that the food you eat also contributed to the health of your chakras.

For a healthy and balanced heart chakra add in more green foods such as spinach, broccoli, avocados, cucumber, and kiwi.

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is the emotion of being thankful, showing appreciation, and returning kindness.

Heart-chakra

Being grateful is a beautiful and harmonious way to live as it attracts more love, happiness, and abundance into your life.

A simple way to practice gratitude is by saying 5 things you are grateful for upon waking up and going to sleep.

Practice yoga

Many energy healers believe that movement is a great way to open blocked chakras.

One of the best ways to move your body is through yoga. Try performing poses associated with the blocked chakras.

For example, if your heart chakra is blocked, perform moves that open your chest and permit you to breathe freely.

Visit an energy healer

Energy healers can direct the energy inside your body to improve the flow within your chakras.

You can try several types of energy healers, including Reiki practitioners, chakra alignment gurus, acupuncturists, and more.

During a healing session, you need to be concentrated on opening your chakras. You can’t just sit there thinking about other things and expect your chakras to recover.

Although someone else is guiding the energy in your body, you still need to be present and focused for this technique to work.

Mantra chanting

Mantra chanting reharmonizes the energy field from within and is a fundamental heart-based practice.

The aligned vibrations work directly on the chakra and bring about deep healing.

The seed mantra of the Anahata heart chakra is ‘Yam.’ Chant this mantra while listening to meditation music and allow it to rise out of your heart space and purify any blockages there.

Here is an excellent version of the Yam’ chant that I meditate too and also repeat the mantra myself.

Sound and singing bowls

Sound frequency is one of the best ways to retune any chakra.

You can work with an instrument, musical note, or mantra that is aligned with the vibration of the chakra you want to retune.

The keynote of Anahata is F, and the Solfeggio frequency is 639 Hz.

Singing bowls that are attuned to this frequency can provide potent healing for the heart chakra.

If you own one, play it and let the soundwaves wash through your being, or, place the bowl on the centre point of your chest and feel the resonance through your heart.

Spend time in nature

To perform this technique, spend some time outside. Go for a walk through the grass, listening to the wind going through the trees, or sit down and absorb and be mindful of the natural beauty around you.

Be alert and present, and take notice of what you see, smell and hear.

This will help you feel grounded, make you feel oneness with nature, and will restore your chakra’s energy to its former glory.

Make time for joy

Give yourself permission to spend time doing activities you love and that bring you joy.

These don’t need to be big or time-consuming. Simple activities, such as putting on some music and dancing in your own home, can be enough. Just prioritise things that feed your heart.

How to Balance the Heart Chakra – Final thoughts

The heart chakra is the most important chakra to keep healthy as all the other chakras follow the energy it is radiating.

Prepare for some serious reflection and healing. I can’t lie to you though, heart chakra healing can be a little intense, but it’s 100% worth it.

When your heart is open, it is the best feeling in the world!
