Living in the present moment – The cure for anxiety & depression!
How do depression and anxiety arise?
Depression arises from overthinking about the past, anxiety arises from overthinking about the future. When we bounce between the two, our life is at never-ending turmoil and we feel like we’re at constant war with our minds.
So how do we escape this suffering? We do so by being aware of the moment we are experiencing, also known as a being in the present moment. We also have to understand that our thoughts are not us, and they are only suggestions generated by the mind.
The function of the mind
I’m not one of these people who will criticise the mind, as the mind is doing its job. It’s our lack of awareness and understanding which is the cause of suffering.
The mind is simply offering us suggestions through thought, based on our past experiences. It’s how we perceive our thoughts where the issues lie.
The present moment
When we practice being in the present moment, we create a gap within the thinking of the mind. Every single moment of being aware is contributing towards a potential fountain of inner peace within.
Anxiety and depression simply cannot exist in the present moment. This is because the past and future do not exist, they are only in the mind.
When we place being in the present moment as our highest priority, an ocean of inner peace will emerge within. This ocean is not new, it’s always been there, in all of us. It is temporary veiled by the mind through obsessive thinking and perceiving.
The wonders of life are unveiled within the present moment, and by aligning ourselves with Universe, we will reap the benefits of abundance, which is the nature of the creation.
