Today I will be sharing with you a guide on how to balance the Third Eye Chakra.

Third Eye Chakra is the 6th Chakra and is responsible to what we refer to as “the sixth sense”.

The Chakra connects us to our internal intuitions and is responsible for the sharp senses, the ability to read the future and receive non-verbal messages.

This guide tells you everything you need to know about the 3rd eye chakra and how to open it.

 

 

Third eye chakra overview

  • Colour: Indigo
  • Location: Centre of the forehead, at the brow level
  • Mantra: “I am open to exploring what cannot be seen.”
  • Element: Light/Darkness
  • Gland: Pineal
  • Sound: Om
  • Musical Note: A
  • Gemstones: Any dark blue or indigo-coloured stones (e.g. Lapis Lazuli, Amethyst, Fluorite, Sodalite, Tanzine Aura Quartz, Sapphire, or Tanzanite)

  • Emotional Body: The Third Eye allows one to look within and exam his/her own thoughts and limiting belief systems. It is located where the left and right hemispheres of the brain connect, so it is connected with balancing our creative mind and analytical mind.
  • Spiritual Body: This is the mind’s eye. It’s through this chakra that clairvoyance (clear seeing) occurs. The Third Eye is sometimes called, “the seed of the soul”. It’s where our ability to see within ourselves and others is combined with a greater universal understanding. The Third Eye allows us to see the truth and the meaning behind it.

 

What Is The Third Eye Chakra?

The Sanskrit word for the third eye chakra is “Ajna”, which translates to “perception”.

It’s represented by the colour indigo and is located at the centre of the forehead, between your physical eyes.

The third eye is your psychic antennae. In other words, it’s the reason you “just know” when your best friend is going to call, or why you decide at the last minute to change your route driving home.

You, like all humans, have a sixth sense that’s just as real as your sense of sight, smell, or touch.

In addition to intuitive ability, your third eye chakra is also responsible for your sense of clarity and inspiration.

So, when your third eye chakra is open, you can easily see the truth of situations, and allow yourself to follow your impulses.

Life becomes much clearer when you heal your third eye chakra blockages.

The most important thing to know is that we all have intuition.

While the third eye chakra can become blocked, it can easily become unblocked.

Your sixth sense is a natural human sense, just like physical sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

Everything is energy, so when you receive intuitive information, you’re just picking up on non-physical energy.

An open third eye chakra affords us the wisdom to find the lessons in every situation, even when things don’t go our way.

The Third Eye Chakra deals with life lessons related to the use of your mind, intuition, knowledge and wisdom.

The Third Eye Chakra is associated with holistic truth, wisdom and self-love.

It is the centre of intuition and discernment.

It invites having positive, open-minded relations to the world, and being particularly sympathetic towards ourselves as we navigate through our existence and evolve.

It opens up the individual to his inner wisdom, to intuition and introspection, and connecting to a world unseen.

Faith broadens one’s understanding of existence and our individual connection to the whole.

Maturity brings a new sense of openness to higher knowledge, and self-acceptance.

 

WHERE IS THE THIRD EYE CHAKRA?

The third eye chakra is located between the two brows in the middle of the forehead. In meditation, you can imagine it as a swirling purple or indigo spiral.

It is the mind chakra, associated with the brain, pituitary gland, and pineal gland.

 

Third Eye Chakra’s Colour

The vibratory colour of the Third Eye Chakra is Indigo.

Indigo is the colour of intuition and meaningful insight.

Indigo means sincerity, wisdom, and fairness.

Wearing the colour indigo can give you a natural intuitive boost and make you feel more aligned with your natural instincts.

Visualising this colour during manifestations and meditations can have a powerful effect on the processes.

 

Why Balance Your Third Eye Chakra?

What comes to mind when you think about the third eye?

Perhaps you have heard that it is the seat of your intuition.

Maybe you have told yourself the story that you don’t have any psychic abilities, you can’t listen to your intuition because you’re too much in your head.

For a moment, consider that perhaps you one thing you can do to awaken these abilities within yourself, is to spend time opening and balancing your third eye chakra (because you can).

You are focused on your mission, tuning out worries and fears and instead tuning into your soul.

How Do You Know Your Third Eye Is Blocked?

Is your third eye chakra blocked?

Ask yourself these questions to find out:

  • Do I acknowledge my inner truth detector?
  • Am I in touch with my feelings?
  • When something doesn’t go my way, do I need a logical explanation or trust that it wasn’t meant to be?
  • Am I afraid of succeeding?
  • Can I trust my gut?
  • Do I set my sights too low because my desires seem out of reach?
  • Am I overly attached to material belongings?
  • Do I approach situations with a healthy balance of logic and emotion?
  • Am I a good judge of character?
  • Do I tend to repeat the same make mistakes?
  • Am I open minded?

 

Emotional Signs of a Blocked Third Eye Chakra

When your third eye chakra is blocked or out of balance, you will feel:

  • confused
  • unclear how to handle situations
  • out of touch with emotions
  • unable to see the bigger picture
  • unaware of other people’s energy
  • afraid or doubtful of your own success
  • illusions

 

Physical Signs of a Blocked Third Eye

Unprocessed emotions can build up over time and cause physical discomfort.

A blocked third eye can result in the following:

  • headaches or migraines
  • clogged sinuses
  • issues with vision
  • nightmares or poor sleep

You can think of your Third Eye as your psychic antenna, picking up on subtle truths all around you.

Your emotions play a huge role in your intuitive guidance.

So, it’s important to honour your feelings as you set out on this journey.

This doesn’t mean you have to experience everyone else’s emotions – that would be mental torture!

But you do need to be open to the gentle feelings you pick up.

When you acknowledge what your feelings are telling you, you can release them.

 

Third Eye Chakra Meditation

Meditation is probably one of the best ways of awakening your third eye chakra as it helps to create better coherence between both of your brain hemispheres.

Meditation, when done correctly, will give your thinking mind a break and shift your brainwaves from beta to alpha state.

As a result, you will begin to think for yourself, trust your intuition with more certainty and look for answers to your problems within yourself.

When you commit to regular meditation practice of your choice, you will be more connected to your inner guidance system and discover your deepest wisdom.

There are many meditation techniques I personally tried.

However, in this article, I am going to give you only 1, which is super simple and very powerful for opening your third eye.

This method is known as concentration mediation, and it is described in Osho’s “The Secret of The Golden Flower” book.

Here’s how to do it:

Sit down (or lay down) quietly in any comfortable position of your choice, and for 15 minutes, concentrate all of your awareness on your third eye centre (the area between your eyebrows).

You can do it with your eyes closed or open, whichever way works better for you.

You can visualise a third eye chakra lotus symbol, a sphere of indigo light, or simply focus on the space itself.

To see the results of this practice, you have to commit to 15 minutes of daily practice.

Why is this simple meditation so powerful for the third eye?

The Taoists believe that when your attention flows outward, you are always spending your energy, and as a result, you become more and more empty inside.

When you focus all of your attention and awareness on your third eye centre, all of your consciousness is flowing inward, and you can move the energy (light) in a circle.

The light is supposed to flow in both directions at the same time so that you don’t become depleted and turn into a ‘black hole’.

Ask for Signs

To start opening your third eye, ask your spirit team or higher self (whatever source you identify with) for signs and then document what you notice in a journal.

As a result, you’ll begin to prove to yourself that you are receiving real messages.

The most common mistake people make is asking for a sign, and then brushing off the answers they receive.

Remember, to be intuitive you must accept there’s more to life than what you pick up with your 5 senses.

So, when you get those intuitive nudges, acknowledge them, say thank you, and write them down.

The more you do this, the more messages you’ll begin to notice.

 

Trust Yourself

Have you ever been deceived, and then after the fact thought…? “I knew it!” Well, yes you did know it because that was your intuition at work.

You sensed something was amiss before you had physical proof.

First, don’t beat yourself up, because hindsight is 20/20 – it’s easy to look back and judge ourselves.

But you can use that situation now to understand how you receive intuitive hits.

Did you get a physical feeling in your stomach? Did you have a dream?

Or perhaps you just had a knowing that you couldn’t explain.

This information is valuable in understanding how your intuitive guidance comes through.

 

Practice Honesty

It’s important to practice honesty in all forms for third eye chakra opening.

This includes being honest with yourself about your own feelings, as well as speaking the truth to others (which is the sign of a balanced Throat Chakra).

The gift of intuition really boils down to knowing the truth when you sense it, and then taking inspired action.

If you’re confused and feel you aren’t tapping into your Third Eye guidance, take a step back and ask yourself what the truth of the situation is.

As you make it a practice to seek clarity with an open heart, your Third Eye Chakra will open more.

 

Assess Your Lower Chakras

It takes confidence and self-love to trust your guidance, especially if you can’t rationalise it.

So a balanced Third Eye Chakra is affected by the Solar Plexus Chakra and Heart Chakra.

You may want to look at the assessment questions in those ultimate guides, to see if you have any healing opportunities in those areas.

Your chakras work together as a system, so it’s difficult to open higher chakras, like the Third Eye, when your lower energy centres are out of balance.

 

Nature

The Third Eye Chakra’s element is light, so embrace opportunities to sit or walk in the sunshine.

If you have a sun room or any open rooms with big windows in your home, take advantage of this space by sitting in silence, reading, or doing some crossword puzzles/logic games.

You might also try sitting or meditating under the moonlight if it’s especially bright out.

 

 

Third Eye Chakra Affirmations

Affirmations are another method of balancing a specific chakra.

Repeating affirmations directs healing energy to restore balance to that aspect of your body, and your life.

These powerful statements rewrite the patterns in our subconscious minds and direct healing vibrations to the chakra.

If your Third Eye Chakra is out of balance, repeat these affirmations:

  • “I trust my inner wisdom.”
  • “My inner guidance is always helping me.”
  • “I recognise divine messages when they’re sent to me.”
  • “My actions are divinely guided.”
  • “Inspiration always finds me.”
  • “I’m always in the right place at the right time.”
  • “Everything is working out perfectly.”
  • “I honour my feelings.”

 

 

YOGA POSES: HEAD AND NECK

Yoga poses that move energy through your head and help to release tension in your neck are good for removing blockages in the third eye chakra.

Try poses such as child’s pose (balasana), forward fold (uttanasana), dolphin pose (makarasana), and eagle pose (garudasana).

 

THIRD EYE MASSAGE

Massaging the third eye point is another way to unblock stagnant energy in this chakra.

It also helps to relax the muscles of the face and increase the blood circulation to the area.

Simply place your index finger on the third eye point.

Exerting a light pressure, take some deep breaths, concentrating on lengthening your inhale and exhale.

Then start to massage the point by making a small circular motion with your finger.

Go one way for a few breaths, then switch to the other way.

You can incorporate essential oils into your massage too.

Make sure you dilute them with a good quality carrier oil. Juniper, clary sage, and frankincense are all linked to the third eye.

 

 KEEP A DREAM JOURNAL

Our dreams are often the voice of our intuition.

However, the messages we receive in dreams can be confusing and hard to understand.

We may also not remember the details for long.

Keeping a dream journal will help you to remember your dreams and you might be able to interpret them more easily.

 

BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS

It is easy to get stuck in the same ways of thinking.

But actively seeking out new ideas and experiences can help to broaden your mind and open your third eye chakra.

Read books from authors you haven’t yet tried, listen to music from different cultures, travel when you can.

Be curious about other people’s thoughts and experiences – cultivate an open mind.

 

Can Music Help?

The chant that helps you open up the third eye chakra is OM pronounced like auuuuummmm.

The Solfeggio frequency that helps balance the third eye is 852 Hz.

This frequency is also fantastic to raise your vibration and to let go of anxiety or depression.

Also, it is said to remove fears and release doubts, and help you get in tune with your intuition.

Meditate Mind is an excellent channel on YouTube for Solfeggio frequencies.

Colours and Gems to Help

Wearing anything indigo helps centre you on your third eye chakra.

Stones that are said to help are Lapis Lazuli, Amethyst, Fluorite, Sodalite, Tanzine Aura Quartz, Sapphire, or Tanzanite).

So, try wearing, meditating with, or just carrying these stones.

They are said to help a great deal with restoring balance to the third eye.

 

Foods and essential oils

Since indigo is the colour of the third eye chakra, any food that is purple is meant to help balance it.

Foods like eggplant, blackberries, plums, prunes, blueberries, purple cabbage, and grapes are great.

Also, anything with omega-3s helps keep the brain functioning at its best.

So, eating dark chocolate is also said to be beneficial since it causes the body to release serotonin making you feel more positive and is a great source of magnesium to help keep stress in check.

Essential oils said to help balance the third eye chakra are clary sage, frankincense, rosemary, vetiver, and sandalwood.

For example, put a little frankincense essential oil in a diffuser and meditate.

It really helps encourage relaxation to open the third eye chakra.

 

What Else Can I Do To Open My Third Eye Chakra?

The pineal gland is strongly linked with the third eye.

Researching ways to keep a healthy and decalcified pineal gland might be beneficial in balancing this chakra.

For example, limiting exposure to fluoride, excess calcium, and heavily processed foods and instead eating organic, whole foods helps with this.

Also, it is believed that practicing candle gazing during meditation helps to activate third eye as well.

It is said that the third eye is our greatest asset when connecting with source, the divine, your higher self, and the universe.

There is a reason why it is nearly impossible to have a discussion about a spiritual awakening without the mentioning of the third eye.

So, make sure to spend time keeping this chakra open and balanced so that you can truly feel the love, serenity, and connection of the entire universe.

 

How to Balance the Third Eye Chakra – Final thoughts

Cultivating your third eye chakra can help you have the vision, think more clearly, and develop your imagination.

A healthy third eye chakra can help you accept the big picture.

It can expand your consciousness and your influence to other planes.

It can also help you prepare for the next level of your spiritual evolution.

When your third eye chakra is open and unblocked, you can benefit from your intuitive knowledge and empathetic connections.

You will have strong memory skills and the ability to find the beautiful meaning in the events in your life.

You will also become more perceptive, imaginative, and openminded.

You will dream powerful dreams, and you will have the mental stamina to fall into easy but deep meditative states.

They have a good imagination and have no problems visualising things.

They are in touch with their inner guidance, and they listen to their deepest wisdom.

People who have a healthy third eye chakra seek to understand and learn the lessons from their life experiences.

They are intuitive, wise, and connected with their inner guide.

Their spirit is nurtured, and they listen to the wisdom of their elders.

They trust their intuition and are open to happiness and inspiration.

They forgive themselves for their past and learn everything there is for them to learn.

They love and accept themselves because they know that all is well in their world!

They are connected with the wisdom of the universe, which is why their lives move very effortlessly.

People who have a good and balanced third eye chakra are at peace because they know they are a source of truth and love!
